Mana Mele School Visits & Mentorships

Kawaikini Public Charter School

Anuhea & Kimie spent a very full two days doing school wide assemblies and small group workshops at each of the 4 Hawaiian culture-based charter schools on Kaua’i. Their journey began at Kawaikini Public Charter School, where Mana Mele‬ students greeted them with oli and lei. At the schoolwide (K-12) assembly, they shared songs and stories, answered questions, and invited the Mana Mele students onstage to sing along to Kimie’s “Make me Say”.

Halau Ku Mana and Mana Maoli seek a qualified, reliable candidate to develop and coordinate curriculum toward a Music and Multimedia Academy, as part of our Mana Mele project. This curriculum is being piloted by 9 Hawaiian charter schools across O’ahu and Kaua’i islands over the course of this and next school year. The ultimate goal is scope and sequence toward a diploma-granting academy, where graduates are college/career ready, and culturally grounded.

We would greatly appreciate any kokua with preparing our Mobile Studio for the storm, and/or spreading the word. Volunteers will be fed!

WHAT WE SEEK HELP WITH:
* Clear the area around the trailer of all scrap material. If the winds pick up as stated in the weather forecast, loose objects around the trailer may get swept up and puncture the trailer.
* Tape the windows to prevent shattering glass.
* Secure materials inside the trailer, move it to safer temporary storage.
